Everyone who knows Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington knows he loves working with his infielders, particularly those guys up the middle. A former journeyman middle infielder himself, Washington has made guys like Elvis Andrus his own personal project in recent years and takes great pride when those guys have success.
On Wednesday, a day before the first official full-squad workout in Surprise, Ariz., Washington was working with his middle infielders and came away pleased with their performance, even that of Jurickson Profar, who can't throw or swing a bat right now but can work on his footwork.
"They put on a show," Washington told reporters on Wednesday. "I must have hit about a thousand balls this morning and not one ball hit the ground. Everything I hit was in a glove. Everything. Everything."
The group of middle infielders included Profar, Rougned Odor, Adam Rosales, Luis Sardinas and Brent Lillibridge, a good mix of prospects and seasoned veterans like Rosales and Lillibridge.
