Choo Returns to Field, Busts Slump

Ever since Shin-Soo Choo stepped awkwardly on first base while trying to run out an infield single in Oakland back in April, things have been going downhill for the seven-year, $130 million man.

Choo was in the midst of a 0-for-21 skid entering Monday's game and had been rested in Toronto thanks to the dangerous turf at the Rogers Centre. At this point, the ankle will most likely be a problem for Choo for the remainder of the season, but the veteran said he hopes to see much more time in the outfield in the coming months instead of being the DH, like he has several times recently.

"I want to push it in the second half and find out," Choo told MLB.com. "I don't want to play the second half like I played the first half."

Choo was back in the field on Monday, actually playing in right field instead of his customary left field due to the small land area in right field at Yankee Stadium as compared to left field. He admitted to being uncomfortable in right, where he hadn't played since 2012, but did say it was easier on his ankle.

Choo also said he regretted not going on the DL after the injury, when he missed seven days but stopped short of the 15-day DL stint.

"I made a bad decision," Choo said. "I should have had more rest instead of trying to come back as soon as possible."
