Just last week we were talking about how odd it was that with "Hansel & Gretel: With Hunter" release date of March 2 right around the corner, we hadn't yet seen a trailer. And now we know why.

"Hansel & Gretel: With Hunter," starring Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner, has had its release date pushed all the way back to January 2013, according to Deadline, who spoke to an exec at Paramount who, naturally, tried to put a happy spin on the whole thing.

"This should really set up the international" said the exec. "Jeremy Renner’s international profile should be in great shape after being in Mission: Impossible 4 now, then The Avengers in May, then The Bourne Legacy in August. As this past weekend shows, January is great play time internationally, and we haven’t done too bad domestically in January, either."

This is the same reasoning that Harvey Weinstein gave for moving back Tom Hardy's "Wettest County" from April to September, hoping to cash in on his star's new level of fame post "Dark Knight Rises." As odd we find that line of thought--After people see Tom Hardy with a mask on his face, they'll recognize him as a rium runner!--curious, the move of "Hansel & Gretel" seems a wee panicky.

Did Paramount only just now learn the release dates of "The Avengers" and "The Bourne Legacy"? Do they not realize Renner is in the monster hit of the Christmas season? Throw in the late timing of the move and the length of it, and well, we're starting to worry about "Hansel & Gretel." It's a shame, too, cuz we like Arterton and Renner quite a bit.
