Wade Phillips' overall record as head coach for the Dallas Cowboys was pretty darn good.

Hell, his overall head coaching is pretty darn good dating back to his days in Denver and Buffalo, before he ever stepped foot on a Cowboys sideline.

But Phillips' regular-season record has always felt pretty empty due to his failure in the postseason, and it also got a boost with the Cowboys' 13-3 record in 2009.

Now, he's the new Broncos' defensive coordinator — his eighth stint as an NFL defensive coordinator — after a year away from football, and Phillips says it's what he's best suited for, going as far as to call himself a bad head coach.

“I was a lousy head coach, but I am a pretty good defensive coordinator” Phillips told the Denver Post.

Phillips led a really good Texans defense most recently before the Texans brought in an entirely new staff this season after firing Gary Kubiak, who is now the Broncos' head coach after a year as an assistant with the Baltimore Ravens.
