The Picks: Buccaneers at Cowboys

It's not enough to say you're an enormous football fan and then just watch the games or play Fantasy Football every week. You've got to put a little skin in the game, dear readers, and make picks in public that open you up to being ridiculed if things don't go your way. Don't think about the downside, though. Think about the benefits you shall receive when your pigskin prognostications become the stuff of legend! Or just do it because all these other guys are doing it and you've got just as much chance of being right as they do.

Peter King (SI.com) - Cowboys 30, Buccaneers 16. King doesn't mention anything about the game, instead using his space to wonder how the "Fighting Schianos" will play defense against the kneel-down at the end of the game. If the Cowboys are up two scores with seconds to play and the Buccaneers crash the line the way they did last week, then we'll know that Greg Schiano's all about fake hustle and not about winning the game.

ESPN - Twelve of the 14 picks from the Worldwide Leader went for the Cowboys last week and it is up to 13 this time around. Mark Schlereth is the only two-time Cowboy hater so this week's result will either make you question everything you know about the world or it will set things right in the universe.

Mike Florio and Michael David Smith, Pro Football Talk - Cowboys 27, Buccaneers 20 (Florio) and Cowboys 34, Buccaneers 20 (MDS).

Yahoo! Sports - It's a clean sweep as all three writers and the Yahoo! users all opt for the Cowboys.

Pete Prisco, CBSSports.com - Cowboys 28, Buccaneers 14. Prisco doesn't like the Bucs playing two road games in a row which seems nitpicky since they just gave up 510 passing yards. Dislike them all you want, but the venue isn't the problem.

The rest of CBSSports.com - Seven of the other eight writers like the Cowboys. Mike Freeman plays iconoclast and goes with the Buccaneers.

Coin Flip (Home Team is Heads) - Cowboys (Coin's record: 0-2)

My Four-Year Old Son - "What's a Buccaneers?" "It's a Buccaneer and the Buccaneers. It's another word for pirate." "I like pirates." "So you think the Buccaneers will win?" "Is that the one that's like a pirate?" "Yes." "I like them."

Me - It was disheartening to see the Cowboys get smacked around in Seattle last week and the Bucs have shown through two weeks that they are willing to play tough. The problem is that they just don't seem to be any good. They were gifted 21 points on interceptions in the first half last week and the Giants couldn't cover Vincent Jackson, yet they still blew the game. It's hard to jump on that bandwagon. Cowboys 27, Buccaneers 17. (2012 record: 0-2)
