In today’s installment of ranking the worst losses of 2010, we look at week five, which served as a study in the sudden loss of any hope. Dallas, coming off of a bye week, lost to Tennessee that week; Cowboys fans, coming into the week with a bit of hope after the team defeated Houston in week three to draw within a half game of division leaders New York and Philly in the standings, lost any sense that Dallas was pulling it together.
3.) Week 4 Vs. Tennessee. Titans 34, Cowboys 27
If I told you that the Dallas Cowboys gained 511 yards on offense, the most in a single game in 11 years, and dominated time of possession by more than 13 minutes, you might assume that I was referring to a game the Cowboys won. And usually, you’d be right. But not on October 10, 2010.
Dallas fell to the Tennessee Titans’ 34-27 on that day, and to 1-3 on the season, their worst start since 2001.
This is because--and if you follow this blog, you may have noticed a trend developing here--the Cowboys also committed 12 penalties for 133 yards, including three pass interference calls on the Titans’ opening touchdown drive.
Tony Romo threw three interceptions, two of which came on deflections; Tennessee scored ten points off of these turnovers. He was also sacked six times.
Fans came into the game hopeful. The thought, of course, was that the victory over the Texans could be a sign that the Cowboys were getting their, uh, stuff together. As the loss to the Titans proved, this was not the case.
