Michael Irvin Calls for Matt Cassel

Irvin believes Cassel's experience could make a big difference for a young offense

The calls for Matt Cassel have begun in earnest following the Dallas Cowboys’ 30-6 beating at the hands of the New England Patriots on Sunday in Arlington.

Hall of Fame receiver turned NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin himself made it clear in a recent interview with 105.3-FM The Fan’s G-Bag Nation that he thinks now--after watching Weeden dink and dunk his way to 26-of-39 passing against the Patriots, for 188 yards, no touchdowns and an interception--is the time for a change.

"I would be thinking about with that defense looking at Matt Cassel at an older quarterback with more experience can help these young guys,” Irvin said, via the Dallas Morning News. “It's difficult with a young quarterback and young receivers, experience-wise."

The numbers back up Irvin’s thinking. Cassel is only a couple years older than Weeden, but his experience goes way further, with 71 career under his belt when he was traded to the Cowboys three weeks ago. Weeden has just 24 career starts, by comparison.
