Dez Hopes NFL Lets Him Know When They “Figure Out What a Catch Is”

Larry Fitzgerald's catch in the divisional round looked almost exactly like Dez Bryant's non-catch last year

When Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald made a catch eerily reminiscent of Dez Bryant’s infamous non-catch in Green Bay in the divisional round of the playoffs last week, Bryant was watching, and—not that this comes as much surprise—he thought it was a catch.

The only major difference was, where Bryant’s catch was overturned on review, Fitzgerald’s catch was confirmed.

“You know when I watch football, I’m into it, even during the season, like a fan,” Bryant said, per Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I felt like if it was called a completion, it was a completed catch. The officials are going to call the game the way they want to call it.”

Commissioner Roger Goodell knows this is an issue that needs addressing, so he put together a catch committee to revisit the league’s catch rules this offseason. Once upon a time, Bryant suggested he should be put on that committee, but now he has a simpler request.

“The NFL is still trying to figure out what a catch is,” Bryant said. “Whenever they figure that out, hopefully they’ll let me know.”
