Carl and Neil Fletcher invented the deep-fried corn-battered hot dog in their kitchen in Dallas and sold it for the first time at the State Fair of Texas in 1942. Since then it's become a state fair tradition, there's no other food on a stick like it. The Fletcher family reports they sell around 500,000 corny dogs during the fair's 24-day run each year.

- Jman When Fletcher's closed their stores, it was indeed a sad day. Now we can only get the REAL Fletcher's corn dogs a few weeks a year during the State Fair. Wish I could stock up and keep them for the rest of the year. When Fletcher's closed their stores, it was indeed a sad day.
