World's Largest Chair on the Move

The world's largest chair has a new home.

The Big Chair, originally built in the 1950s, has an interesting history in Bennington, New York.

It was rebuilt to be even bigger in the 60s, for a time, being the largest chair in the world. After being demolished in 2000 because it was rotting, it was rebuilt again in 2012, claiming the title of the World's Largest Ladder-back Chair.

The chair was destroyed by a wind storm shortly after, and rebuilt for a third time. Last year, the furniture store it stood next to burned to the ground.

Now, the 3,000 lb., 19 foot tall chair has moved to its new home.

"It's like being given a second chance," said Christopher LaFlamme, owner and president of the LaFlamme's Furniture. "We kept saying, "we're back, we're bigger, we're better, we're stronger." This is the definition of big. It's such a wonderful time for us, it's a celebration."
