DFW Set to be Top Contender For Amazon's HQ2

The bidding war has begun and the clock is ticking as Amazon searches for the perfect spot to build their second headquarters.

And the city of Dallas is poised to be one of the top contenders.

Amazon has a list of must-haves for its next location. North Texas and Dallas would come out on top based on the e-commerce giant's list of requirements.

Amazon wants HQ2 in a metropolitan area with more than 1 million people, good universities, high quality of life, a stable and business friendly environment, a city able to attract tech talent and an urban or downtown location.

The rubber meets the road when it comes to traffic and public transportation. Also on Amazon's "must-haves" list is a commute of 45 minutes or less to an international airport, connection to mass transit, and easy access to a major highway.

Experts do not believe transportation will hold North Texas back when it comes winning the bid.

β€œA lot of people don't realize this, but the region has added about one million people every decade since 1960 and that's going to continue,” said Mike Morris who is the Director of the Transportation North Central Texas Council of Governments. β€œWe are on our way to 7.5 million, on our way to 10.5 million. So I think we're kind of a winning team in that since. We continue to do well."

Several other cities have expressed interest. The courtship will end mid-October.

Each city must submit their bids between Oct. 16 through 19.
