Witten Fine With Jerry's Title Talk

Jerry Jones said earlier this week that the 2012 Cowboys are a Super Bowl caliber team

Cowboys owner and general manager took to the radio this week to declare that this year’s Cowboys--who are a game under .500, at 2-3 at the moment--were good enough to compete for a Super Bowl this season. This isn’t that surprising or interesting. Jones does this seemingly every year these days.

What is kind of interesting is how Cowboys’ players and coaches react to the comments when they’re inevitably brought up by the media. Jason Garrett (in true Jason Garrett style) said that the team wasn’t worried about the comments earlier this week, and on Thursday, veteran tight end Jason Witten said that Jerry’s feelings should be shared by everyone in the Dallas locker room.

If you don’t, get out of here,” Witten said, per the Dallas Morning News. “But you have to go prove it every week. A lot of games we’ve done good things and a lot of things we have to improve on. Absolutely. Did the Giants think it at 7-7? That’s the way this league goes. I’m not saying that’s the formula for doing it. You have to still win games. Let’s get it corrected. We feel we have the men in this room who can do it. Now you have to go show it.”

Witten, who believes Jones was "trying to be optimistic" when discussing the team's chances for a title, doesn't think the now infamous remarks are really as crazy as they might've come across to the outsider.

“I think he watches the tape and sees that we’re doing a lot of good things,” Witten said. “I don’t think it’s more than that. I don’t think he’s trying to build us up or anything like that. I think he’s going with how it is in his mind and obviously being optimistic, as we all are.”
