Cowboys running back Darren McFadden says he’s more than comfortable taking passes out of the backfield, which is good because with Lance Dunbar out for the season, he’ll probably be doing that a lot more.
The Cowboys made as much clear in the loss to the Patriots, when McFadden led the team in receiving with nine catches on 10 targets from Brandon Weeden, for 62 yards.
"It's just felt normal to me to be able to go out there and take check downs from the quarterback,” McFadden said, per Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. “It's something I've always done. I didn’t really put a grade on my game or anything, but I just I felt like I did what I was supposed to do out there and took care of the ball and just tried to make plays when I could."
McFadden, who has 129 rushing yards and a touchdown on the season, knows trying to replace the ultra-versatile Dunbar is a tall task.
“He's brought a spark to the team and he's out there making plays in whatever way that he could, whether he was catching the ball or running it out of the backfield,” McFadden said. “That's a guy that we're definitely going to miss. We always have the motto that the next guy has to be ready. And somebody else is going to have to step in and try to pick up that slack."
