Thanks Utah! Mavs to Miss L.A. in First Round

The Dallas Mavericks will be either the No. 6 or 7 seed in the Western Conference playoffs -- thanks in part to the Utah Jazz losing 125-112 Tuesday to the Lakers, but also due to a great surge at the end of the season by the Mavericks.

With Tuesday's loss, the Jazz wound up seeded eighth and will meet the Lakers again in the first round. The sixth and seventh seeds will be decided Wednesday night, the final night of the regular season.

The Mavs have won five of their last seven and could move into the 6th seed with a win Wednesday and a New Orleans loss.

If the Mavs beat the Houston Rockets at home, and the Spurs beat the New Orleans Hornets in San Antonio, then Dallas will be sixth. If either the Rockets or Hornets win, the Mavericks will be seventh.

Dallas' first-round foe could be Denver, Houston or San Antonio.

Tip off for Wednesday's game is 7 p.m.
