Spectator Crashes Opening Ceremony in Pyeongchang

Same intruder appeared to enter stadium twice

Following the prime time broadcast of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics opening ceremony, NBC reported that an unauthorized individual slid down the ramp leading from the Olympic torch into Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.

NBC’s Mike Tirico said what appeared to be the same person returned a second time later in the ceremony.

"It was a Korean spectator and he was removed from the stadium as soon as he was taken off the stage," a spokeswoman for Games organizers told AFP.

According to AFP, the intruder entered the stadium following the entrance of North and South Korea marching under the unification flag. The opening ceremony concluded without any further incident.
