Newly demoted long reliever Wandy Rodriguez threw 54 pitches to get three outs in Tuesday night's 21-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
Newly promoted long reliever Phil Klein threw 49 pitches to get nine outs -- more efficient than Rodriguez, but still debilitating as far as pitching again on Wednesday, if needed. Spencer Patton threw 36 pitches of his own.
All of this means you can expect to see a roster move made on Wednesday before the Rangers take on the Yankees in Game 3 of their four-game series in Arlington.
The logical move would be to recall Anthony Bass, who was optioned following Sunday's poor outing against the Angels because he'd worked on consecutive days and thrown a lot of pitches and wouldn't be available on Monday with the unstable Matt Harrison on the mound. That move brought Klein up.
Now, you can expect see Bass and Klein simply switch places.
While Klein appears to be safe on the 40-man roster, you'd have to think the next time an addition needs to be made, it'll be at the expense of Rodriguez, who will almost certainly be designated for assignment at some point this season.
