Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was encouraged by his meeting with Orlando Scandrick this week, but he won’t go into more detail than that and he remains adamant that since he is under contract, the veteran cornerback should be at Valley Ranch going through the offseason program with his teammates.

“I had a good visit with Orlando," Jones said, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “I don’t want to speculate on our business. We did talk about how he’s under contract and he should be here working with his team.”

Of cornerbacks Scandrick, Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne, Scandrick has been the best over the past couple seasons and he makes the least. Unhappy about that fact, Scandrick has been working out in California away from the team in hopes of getting a new contract. His visit to North Texas this week is the first sign we’ve had that any progress is being made to that end.

Owner Jerry Jones believes this week’s meeting could mark an important step in getting Scandrick back with his team.

“Of course we strand strong about what a good player he is, how much we need him, how much he helps us and we would like to get something satisfactorily worked out with him,” the owner said. “The last time when he asked for the agreement he’s got now he came in and asked to look at the agreement and make a change and we did, so we’re talking about the one we changed for him last time.

“Hopefully we can get something worked out that can be in the best interest of the Cowboys and also accommodate what he needs to do. We didn’t get anything done, but we certainly are talking about it.”
