McSurdy Doing His Best Vickers

LB Caleb McSurdy played fullback on Tuesday in the absence of the injured Lawrence Vickers

2012 seventh round pick Caleb McSurdy is a linebacker by trade, but after missing his rookie season due to a torn Achilles suffered in training camp a year ago, McSurdy returned in 2013 only to be summarily moved to fullback where, on Tuesday, he did his best impression of starter Lawrence Vickers.

“I met with the tight ends for like half of a position meeting and then went back to the linebackers,” McSurdy said, per the Dallas Morning News. “It was only five or six plays they had me look at but, yeah, it was a lot of fun just being out there. Offense, defense, special teams, if you’re playing ball, you’re playing ball.”

The real Vickers is recovering from offseason back surgery, clearing the way for McSurdy’s move--not that he minds much. The Montana product actually worked out as a fullback in his pre-draft meeting with Dallas last year.

“I’m thankful they gave me another shot,” McSurdy said of Dallas.
