Mazara Wins Texas League Award

While the big club in Arlington is in a massive tailspin this season, the Texas Rangers organization isn't all under a black cloud at the moment.

Of course, there's the hype around Joey Gallo and Jorge Alfaro, but another position player prospect is starting to grab some headlines in the form of outfielder Nomar Mazara. The 19-year-old is the youngest player in the Texas League after he was promoted from Low-A Hickory earlier this month, skipping High-A Myrtle Beach altogether.

And so far, Mazara has made the Rangers' front office look pretty genius for the move — a risk of wrecking a young kid's confidence with failure after a two-level promotion.

Mazara was named the Texas League Player of the Week on Monday after going 8-for-22 with six extra-base hits, including two home runs, and for a moment, anyway, taking some of the spotlight off his Frisco teammates Gallo and Alfaro.
