Mavs Center Noel Switches Agents in Search of Max Deal

So Nerlens Noel fired his agent and will sign with Dan Fegan.

Big whoop.

He still isn’t going to get a max deal from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban this summer. Cuban would be foolish to pay the 23-year old more than he has to.

No other NBA clubs tried to sign the restricted 6-11 center.

He has a one year qualifying offer of $5.8 milliion on the table but it’s not to his liking so he switched agents.

“We’re in a holding pattern,” is what Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle told me back in July on NBC Sports Radio when I brought up the contract talks between Dallas and Noel. The NBA salary cap didn’t go up has high as many previously projected, so the summer of 2017 was not a bonanza some players hoped for.

Noel is upset and wants his money but is a deal worth $12 million or $13 million a year worth passing on? With Noel’s injury history, he might want to jump on that. The Mavs and other NBA teams understand he has an injury history.

We’re talking about a guy who averaged 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. That doesn’t scream “Max Contract” if you ask me. By the way, the “max” is almost $25 million a year.
