As we all know, pitchers' wins are about the most meaningless stat going in baseball these days.

If you look at Colby Lewis' 4.49 ERA and 21 home runs allowed, you might think he's just been incredibly lucky and blessed with superb run support in his 13 wins this year. And to some extent, you'd be right.

But a deeper look at Lewis' season shows a pitcher that has been pretty dang good with the exception of a few horrible outings.

Lewis has outings this year in which he allowed seven, nine and 10 earned runs but stayed in games to help soak up some innings and protect a much-maligned bullpen from being even further overworked. Those inflated that ERA and some of his other numbers.

On Friday night, he'll look to have another solid outing after he's averaged seven innings in each of his past two starts, and he'll have to do it against a suddenly resurgent Justin Verlander.
