Staring center Phil Costa passed a battery of cognitive tests this week and, as of Thursday, had returned to practice following a concussion suffered in the loss to the Giants last Sunday, but there’s still a chance that Kevin Kowalski--and undrafted rookie out of Toledo--could get the start.
Head coach Jason Garrett said Kowalski, who replaced Costa in the Giants game, “could play” even if Costa was healthy enough to play. Kowalski did well in replacing Costa against a fierce Giants pass rush, and his case is helped by the fact that Costa hasn’t been impressive of late.
"Any time you get in and get a little experience the more comfortable you are," Kowalski said, per the Dallas Morning News. "I think that will help me in the future."
If he does get the nod against the Bucs, it will be Kowalski’s first career regular season start. He also started the team’s preseason game against the Vikings, prior to Andre Gurode being released.
