On Saturday night, Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar suffered a torn right achilles late in the 19-16 loss to the Jets.

On Tuesday, the San Diego State product will undergo surgery and be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Head coach Jason Garrett expressed confidence that the team’s second round pick in 2013 will be able to bounce back from the injury, his optimism supported by Escobar’s youth and the team’s history with players who have had the same injury.

"We have had a good track record with some guys," Garrett said, per the Dallas Morning News. "He will get himself right. He's a young man. He will heal quickly.”

Escobar is looking at a timetable of several months after surgery, but the team hopes he’ll be ready for the opening of training camp 2016.
