The Texas Rangers' list of pitching reinforcements is quickly becoming shorter and shorter.
Just recently, it was announced starting pitcher Colby Lewis was being shut down for the season to undergo surgery to remove bone spurs in his hip just a week before he was set to make his big-league return after more than a year away rehabbing from elbow surgery.
Last week, Matt Harrison was removed from a rehab start with numbness in his pitching hand after he had back surgery back in April. Now his return, slated for late-August, is up in the air.
Now, the same goes for reliever Neftali Feliz, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and was removed from a rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock with triceps soreness and has now been shut down due to triceps tendinitis.
The club is calling this latest ailment for Feliz "not serious" but it's still a red flag for a guy that already is nearing a season and a half of being on the shelf.
Feliz has been a shutdown reliever for the Rangers, and was set to make his return to the bigs in the bullpen instead of as a starter, which he became last season before being shut down and eventually undergoing Tommy John reconstructive surgery on his right elbow.
