DeMarco Murray Unsure Why He Was Held Out of Eagles' First Practice

Murray practiced with his new team Monday after missing the first session of camp on Sunday

Cowboys running back turned Eagles running back DeMarco Murray missed the first day of practice at Eagles camp on Sunday, and the reigning NFL rushing champion himself isn’t totally sure why.

Murray, who practiced on Monday, is perfectly healthy and said of his unexpected off-day simply that it was a coach’s decision.

"You're always upset when you don't get the chance to go out there and compete and take the pressure off the other guys," Murray said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Obviously, as a competitor I want to be out there, but it didn't happen."

Whether Sunday’s absence is part of a larger practice schedule, designed specifically for the man who smashed the Cowboys’ franchise record for attempts in a season last year, remains to be seen.

"That's out of my control,” Murray said. "It's not up to me. It's up to Duce (Staley, the team’s running backs coach) and Chip (Kelly). I put a lot of good work in. You always want to be out there as much as you can.”
