Cowboys Done Talking to Waters for Now

Dallas has been in talks with veteran guard Brian Waters for several weeks now

Even without the services of their first team or second team left guard (Nate Livings and Ronald Leary, respectively), the Dallas Cowboys are done with dealing with veteran offensive lineman Brian Waters--for now they are, anyway.

It takes two,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones said this weekend, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We weren’t able to get it done. That doesn’t mean you’re not going to get it done later at all. It just means it’s not done right now.”

Livings had surgery on his knee two weeks ago. Leary had knee surgery last week. Both are hoping to return in time for the regular season opener against the Giants on September 8 but, until then, David Arkin will be taking those reps.

“We have always had the alternative of doing what we hope happens and have Livings healthy,” Jones said, “and we expect Leary to be healthy.”
