Claudio Goes to Limit in Gutsy Performance

Alex Claudio has only allowed four runs this year, and one of those came in Monday's 10-8 win to snap the league's longest win streak and continue their own in Cleveland.

But Monday's outing was far different than the others in which Claudio got touched up.

The lefty tossed a career-long 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run, after starter Phil Klein failed to record an out in the third inning. It was a stark contrast from Claudio's season thus far, given that he'd allowed his other three runs in outings of zero, zero and one-third of an inning — amounting to a bit of a dumpster fire.

On Monday, Claudio was solid. He walked four batters, but pitched his way out of jams while throwing 61 pitches, surpassing his previous season-high of 27.

"What a gutsy performance by Claudio," Rangers manager Jeff Banister told reporters.

It sure was, and it wasn't totally clean with all the walks, but it helped bail out the team after the first awful start in quite some time.
