Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr has never been one to shy away from a challenge, which is a good thing. Because this week in Detroit, heโll be charged with covering the consensus pick for best receiver in the NFL today in the Lionsโ Calvin Johnson.
โItโs a big step,โ Carr said this week, per ESPN Dallas. โI love the challenge, man. Iโve been saying that for a long time. These are the games that youโre in the backyard the last drive of the game and itโs you versus whoever the top receiver is growing up as a kid.โ
Carr, who is from Flint, Michigan, admitted that he has a good deal of family members who count themselves as massive fans of the man heโs charged with quieting on Sunday.
โIโve got little nephews who look up to this guy,โ he said. โHeโs an idol to them. I respect him, but at the same time, Iโm eager to go out there and mix it up with him.โ
Carr has emerged in the past few weeks as the kind of shut-down corner Dallas was hoping for when they brought him in from Kansas City with a five-year, $50 million deal. On the year, he has 25 tackles, a pair of interceptions (including a pick-six) and seven pass breakups.
โYou want to hold that throne as the top dog out there on the island,โ Carr said. โIโve still got some work to do, which is fine, but Iโm enjoying every moment of it.โ
