Buehler Gets By With Some Help From His Friends

David Buehler quieted his many doubters, temporarily anyway, in the 27-13 victory over the Texans’ with field goals of 49 and 44 yards, a perfect two-for-two performance. Both attempts were struck square and true by the second-year man out of USC, and shot through the uprights with distance to spare.

It was, in every way, a redemptive performance--when anything less than a perfect day would have led, at best, to frantic calls for his ouster and, at worst, his actual ouster. Now, he just has to do it again, should the opportunity arrive this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Buehler is well aware that this is a β€œwhat have you done for me lately” league, and that, if he has a bad day this Sunday, his performance against Houston will be quickly and definitely forgotten.

Such is the life of an NFL kicker.

Consistency is the name of the game, and, when in Buehler's situation--which remains somewhat precarious--the pressure can be daunting. But Buehler will enter Sunday, as he did at Houston, confident; the result, in great part, of his teammates' own growing confidence in him as an NFL place kicker.

"It all depends on what you do on Sunday," Buehler said, per the Dallas Morning News. "I have to practice well and focus every day and treat this as a job. I know everybody is on my side and pushing for me. That helps out."
