Brahmas Top Gorillas With Powerplay

Texas wins 4-3

The Brahmas powerplay was on fire Friday night earning them the victory in Amarillo as they beat the Gorillas 4-3 on the road.

The first period was one for the special teams as four powerplay goals were scored, two for each team to conclude the period in a 2-2 tie.  Texas was outshot 16-11, but netminder Brett Jaeger was strong in goal.  Amarillo started the scoring with a goal from Nick Theriault, but Texas counter attacked with back to back powerplay goals from Justin Kinnunen and Marc Belanger.  Defenseman Kevin McLeod had the primary assists on both goals.

Following an Amarillo goal, Texas' special teams continued to highlight the game in the second as Aaron Davis scored his first goal of the season from McLeod's third assist of the evening.  Brahmas newcomer Pete Rouleau put Texas up ahead 4-3 with the team's fourth powerplay goal with :39 seconds remaining in the period.

Defense played a key role in the final period for Texas as Jaeger and the Brahmas stopped all 16 shots in the third and left with the 4-3 win.  Despite being outshot 42-32, the Brahmas snuck away with their first victory on the road.

The Brahmas return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre tomorrow night for a game against the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05 PM.  The first 2,000 fans at the game will receive free 2008-09 Texas Brahmas magnet schedules.  For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit
