Blanks Showing His One Trick is No Joke

Kyle Blanks came to the Rangers as a call-up last week with the tag of being a power hitter who doesn't do much else other than hit balls a really long way, when he gets a hold of them.

It didn't take him long to show why he has that tag.

In his first three games as a Ranger, Blanks hit two homers — enough to tie him for the team lead — and had a 4-for-5 day in Saturday's win over the A's, one his former teams and the team that put him on waivers this winter.

Blanks has never been a guy to hit for average, but he does have some prodigious power, and while Mitch Moreland is out after a minor elbow procedure, which should be another couple of weeks at least, Blanks will basically get a chance to play every day, whether it's at first base or designated hitter.

If he can keep this up, it could be difficult for the Rangers to send him back down once Moreland gets back, but it's hard to envision another guy they would send down. So it's up to Blanks to prove as much as he can in these next couple of weeks.
