Texas Tech can add one more accomplishment to its best football season ever:
Mike Leach is the Big 12 coach of the year.
The Associated Press on Tuesday named him the conference's coach of the year. I
n balloting by a panel of conference media, Leach got 16 votes to four for Texas' Mack Brown.
The honor adds to a historic season for Leach and the No. 8 Red Raiders. Tech (11-1) this year got its first win over a top-ranked team, reached its highest national ranking and captured its first Big 12 South trophy -- albeit a shared prize due to a three-way tie.
