SMU is spending the week getting ready for their first bowl game appearance since 2012. The Mustangs will play Louisiana Tech in the inaugural Frisco Bowl on Dec. 20 at Toyota Stadium.
Now, the question- will SMU have their head coach on the sidelines at the bowl game?
Rumors are circulating that Chad Morris could be the next head coach at Arkansas. In fact, a deal could possibly be reached as early as Wednesday. This is actually the third SEC job Morris has been linked to. Previous reports tied him to Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Morris took over a football program that was struggling with consistency and winning. That program began to rise from the ashes under Morris. He’s 14-22 in three years at the helm on The Hilltop but 7-5 this season. Before arriving at SMU, Morris was the offensive coordinator for four years at Clemson and is still adored there. He was also a successful high school coach at various schools in the Lone Star State, including Stephenville.
Meanwhile, the Razorbacks are trying to get back to being relevant in the SEC. They fired head coach Bret Bielema last month after finishing the season at 4-8 (1-7 in SEC). Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn turned down the Arkansas gig last weekend and Morris then became the prime target.
The SMU coaching staff was spending Tuesday night recruiting when these reports started to surface.

If Morris does leave Dallas for Fayetteville, the faithful in Arkansas are hoping he can provided the same kind of magic with the Razorbacks as he did with the Mustangs. On the flip side, SMU will be left filling a big hole in their program, one that was on the rise under Morris.
