JerryWorld Architects to Take on UNT Stadium

Project will be firm's first college stadium

Plans for a new 30,000-seat football stadium at the University of North Texas have been approved.

A groundbreaking is scheduled before the Mean Green's game against Air Force on Nov. 21, and construction is expected to be completed by the 2011 season. North Texas currently plays in 57-year-old Fouts Field.

The stadium plans were approved Thursday by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the final step before construction could begin. It will be the first college stadium designed by HKS Inc. Architects, the firm that designed the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

Private donations, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and a student athletic fee will help pay for the new stadium across Interstate 35 from Fouts Field.
