Caraway Not Running for Dallas Mayor, Yet

Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway says he is not running for Mayor of Dallas.

Caraway released a statement on Friday saying he has plenty of time to run for that office, but now is not the right time and that he wants to fulfill the campaign promises he made to his constituents -- specifically to be a leader in the redistricting process.

"My number one focus, and the most important effort I can take part in at this time is to make certain that the configuration of representation in our city is balanced, equitable and makes the most sense for Dallas," Caraway said in a statement. "I know my efforts in this area will have a lasting impact on our city for the next 10-15 years."

Caraway added that he'll be vigilant in vetting individuals who announce their candidacy for the mayoral race.  At the proper time, Caraway will announce his endorsement for the office.

Current Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert announced earlier this week that he will not be seeking reelection.
