Authorities in West Texas are hunting for a 38-year-old prisoner who fled a work detail at a Department of Criminal Justice regional office in Plainview.
Corrections agency officials said Charlie Davis Jr. was noticed missing Monday from his job as a janitor.
Davis began a two-year term at the Wheeler State Jail in Plainview in late June for a theft conviction in nearby Swisher County. Because his offense was non-violent and he had a short prison term, he was eligible for the job as a trusty.
Now Davis faces up to a 20-year sentence for felony escape.
Police, county deputies and corrections agency officers are involved in the search.
His escape prompted a lockdown of Plainview public schools and Wayland Baptist College but operations were back to normal Tuesday.
