The Dallas Morning News named Dallas County district attorney Craig Watkins its 2008 Texan of the Year.
Watkins, during his first term as Dallas County district attorney, created a conviction integrity unit. The unit works to free those wrongly convicted of murder, rape and robbery through DNA evidence.
Dallas County leads the country in DNA exonerations (19 and counting).
