A 19-year-old man has been accused of drowning his pregnant girlfriend and trying to burn her body in a field near San Antonio.
Courtney Hyriease Velasques was arrested Friday in San Antonio. The Bexar County sheriff's office says Velasques was being held on a charge of capital murder of multiple persons.
Investigators say 18-year-old Dawanna Thomas was nearly five months pregnant when her body was discovered last Saturday by firefighters. Emergency personnel were responding to reports of a grass fire when they came upon the victim.
Authorities say Velasques allegedly drowned Thomas in Salado Creek, then attempted to burn her body.
Details weren't immediately available on bond or an attorney for Velasques.
