10 Measles Cases This Year in Texas Exceeds Last Year's 9

Texas reported one case of the measles in 2017

Texas health officials say there have been 10 measles cases in the state so far this year, exceeding the nine cases last year.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said Wednesday that this year's 10th case is an adult visiting from the Philippines, where there's an ongoing measles outbreak. The person is visiting Guadalupe County, located near San Antonio.

Texas reported one case of the measles in 2017.

Measles, which is highly contagious, is transmitted when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Health officials say the best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized with two doses of the measles vaccine. Health officials recommend children get one dose at 12 to 15 months of age and another at 4 to 6 years.
