A fugitive on Texas' 10 Most Wanted sex offender list is back in the U.S. after a tip led to his capture in Mexico earlier this month.
Cameron County jail records show Cruz Alfredo Bazan, of Harlingen, was being held Monday for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and for probation violation.
Prosecutors said Bazan was caught in Matamoros, Mexico and turned over to U.S. authorities on Oct. 18 in Brownsville.
Records show Bazan in 2012 was convicted of sexual assault of a child in a Cameron County incident involving a 15-year-old girl.
Warrants were issued in 2014 for probation violation and for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
Bazan was on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list since May 2015. A tipster will get $3,000.
