Teen Arrested in Temple Double Murders

A 17-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in the slayings last month of two men in Central Texas.

Temple police say Lupe Martinez Chappa III is in Tom Green County Jail in San Angelo, where he was arrested Monday. Bond is set at $2 million and was expected to be moved to Bell County's jail in Belton on Wednesday.

Temple police say a search continues in San Angelo for 24-year-old Justin Slatton Jr., who's also charged with murdering 26-year-old Jonathan Hess of Temple and 36-year-old Vicente Hernandez of Killeen. A $1,000 reward is offered for information leading to Slatton's arrest.

The two men were found shot inside a Temple residence April 13. Police responding to reports of shots found Hess dead and Hernandez fatally wounded.
