Police Resolve Standoff in Highland Park

Police in Highland Park say an argument led to a man holding a standoff with police for several hours Sunday evening.

According to police, the incident began as a verbal argument between the man and a woman at a home in the 4800 block of Abbott Avenue. The woman walked out of the home, leading to the man barricading himself inside the home, according to police spokesman Lance Koppa.

Residents in the neighborhood were asked to stay inside their homes as the standoff continued into late Sunday evening.

The standoff ended at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday without injuries, Koppa said. No charges will be filed against the man, but he was taken to a nearby hospital for mental evaluation.
