Hail-producing thunderstorms moved through North Texas early Monday morning, damaging property, triggered flash-flood warnings and knocking out power to thousands.
Oncor officials said the storms slowed efforts to restore electricity following storms Oct. 2. More than 25,000 customers in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties did not have power as of 10:20 a.m.
Carrollton Fire Department officials said lightning struck the home of a family of five, starting a fire. The family escaped when a neighbor noticed the fire and called 911.
National Weather Service meteorologist Lamont Bain said the latest storms dropped nearly 3 inches of rain east of Dallas. Quarter-size hail also fell and isolated areas Monday afternoon might still see larger hail fall.
The NWS issued flash flood warnings for Kaufman, Navarro and other counties. There are also flood advisories and severe thunderstorm warnings for other counties extending into East Texas.
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport reported five canceled and 37 delayed departures as well as six canceled and 54 delayed arrivals Monday morning. Dallas Love Field also reported a small number of delays and cancellations.
