Southwest Airlines Ramps Up Hawaii Expansion as It Drops Newark

Southwest Airlines is expanding service to Hawaii again with new flights from California and between the islands, days after it pulls out of its failed foray into Newark, N.J.

Dallas-based Southwest said it will move up the start date for new service to Nov. 10 for flights from Sacramento to Honolulu, as well as inter-island flights between Honolulu and Lihue. Southwest originally planned to start those flights Jan. 19.

It's also adding new flights from San Jose and Oakland, Calif., to the Hawaiian destinations of Kona and Lihue. There also will be another daily flight from Sacramento to Kahului. Those flights will start March 7.
