Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Dez Bryant's preseason chemistry didn't translate well in the regular season opener against the New York Giants.

Prescott targeted Bryant five times and connected just once. It appeared the two hooked up for a long touchdown, but the call was overturned after the referees determined Bryant juggled the ball in the end zone.

If this offense is going to be successful and have balance, the quarterback and receiver need to do better than connecting once on five targets for eight yards.

"He needs catches. He needs balls, but he had some balls thrown at him that he wants to bring down," Prescott said. "He'll say it to himself, he wants to bring down that touchdown and make that play. I think if he has that — regardless of two catches or not — he has that touchdown, I don't know if we're still talking about this."

Prescott did a nice job of spreading the ball around in Sunday's opener. He connected with eight different pass catchers in his debut.

The Giants' defense was determined to slow Bryant and they gave the receiver a lot of attention. The coverage allowed tight end Jason Witten to catch nine balls and slot receiver Cole Beasley to grab eight.

"We're going to continue to run our offense," Prescott said. "If Dez is the read, Dez is the read."
