Right now, two men with ties to a murdered Greenville teenager are in jail, but neither has been charged with her death.
Alicia Moore, 16, disappeared after getting off a school bus last Friday. Her body was found in a trunk left on a rural road in Van Zandt County on Tuesday.
Family and friends have replenished the memorial site for Moore at her bus stop where she vanished. It was wiped out after an accidental fire following a candlelight vigil. Friday, at her school, classmates are wearing purple, her favorite color, to remember the slain teen.
The Moore’s family friend, Maxine Fisher, tied more balloons to Moore’s memorial on Friday.
“Keep her name alive, let her know people in the community care,” said Fisher. “Whoever it was, come forward. Admit to what you did."
Police have been questioning Tobias Whetstone about the teen’s death. Investigators arrested Whetstone on Thursday for an outstanding family violence warrant.
Moore’s aunt thinks Whetstone, who had a mutual friend with her niece, knows more.
The latest news from around North Texas.
“The way he gave to officers some information on the last time he seen her, I’m like, yeah, he could be a possible person,” said Moore’s aunt, Jessica Byrd.
Whetstone’s mom can’t believe her son could be involved in such a cold-blooded killing.
“It makes me feel real bad. I’m actually hurt about it, because I know my son would do nothing like that,” said Tracy Whetstone, Tobias' mother.
Police are also considering retaliation as a motive for murder. Right now, Terry Rasmire, 49, is in jail. He was indicted for sexually assaulting Moore earlier this year. Police are investigating if he could be connected.
“I would hate to think it was someone so close, in our neighborhood,” said Fisher. “If it turned out to be true, what a disgrace to us.”
Friday, the school district is sending a letter home to parents, reminding students to be vigilant with Moore’s killer still out there. The letter can be read here.
Police told NBC 5 on Friday that there are no new developments. Investigators remain tight-lipped about how Moore died.
