Pilot Injured in Sulphur Springs Plane Crash: FAA

A pilot has been hospitalized after the single-engine aircraft he was flying crashed Thursday evening shortly after takeoff in Hopkins County, officials say.

The O'Dell Aeromaster biplane crashed and burned at about 7:40 p.m. while departing the Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport, according to Lynn Lunsford, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot, identified Friday as 46-year-old David German of Ogallala, Nebraska, was injured and the plane was destroyed by fire, officials said.

Medics transported German to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment of critical burns.

The Sulphur Springs Police Department is investigating; further details were not released.
