Mattress Saves Couple After Car Crashes Into Bedroom

It was a rude awakening for a Haltom City couple when a car crashed into their master bedroom at 5:30 a.m.

Haltom City Police say the driver was traveling at high speed, lost control, jumped two curbs and went through the wall in the 4200 block of Woodgate.

"The mattress protected the couple," Sgt. Terry Stayer tells the Star-Telegram. “The woman managed to walk out of the room while her husband managed to get some debris off of him.”

The bloody driver ran away after the crash, but officers tracked him down to his Haltom City home by following the trail of blood through the neighborhood.

Craig Eugene Robinson was treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth for a head injury and turned himself in to the Haltom City Police Department on Tuesday.

Robinson faces two charges of failure to stop and render aid. Bond is $5,000 on each charge.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
