A pilot escaped injury after crashing a helicopter in a field in Bosque County Wednesday.
According to officials in Johnson County, a call was placed to 911 indicating a helicopter making a strange noise followed by smoke.
Emergency responders located the Hiller UH-12B helicopter along the Brazos River, southwest of Rio Vista, in northern Bosque County.
According to Lynn Lunsford with the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot of the helicopter was surveying a ranch when he experienced engine failure and crashed in a field.
The helicopter was mostly intact, though the tail rotor was off and there is damage to the main rotor.
The pilot escaped the crash without injury.
