Groups Protest Wal-Mart Pay, Hours

Protesters are picketing outside Wal-mart stores across the country, including a store in Balch Springs on Friday.

The protests are organized by labor groups and store employees who said they are asking Wal-Mart to pay employees at least $25,000 annually, as well as give them full-time work.

β€œPay us what we’re worth,  treat us with dignity and respect and also allow us to make the poverty line, which is $25,000," said Meggan McKinley, an employee at the Wal-Mart in Lancaster.

Roughly 35 people chanted slogans and held signs at the store in Balch Springs. At least one protester was arrested for blocking the street.

β€œIt’s just unfortunate that there are some critics that are taking advantage of the busy shopping season to grab some headlines," said Wal-Mart director of communications, Anne Hatfield.

On the Today show, Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simons said Wal-Mart employees are paid fairly and treated well.
